Protecting the King
The King is certainly your most important chess piece. The goal of chess is not to win the queen or to queen a pawn, the goal is to check mate the opponent's King. So you have to protect your King. Usually it is protected by pawns, the white king is protected by pawns h2, g2 and f2 if castled kingside and a2, b2, c2 when castled queenside. Then, there is usually a knight involved, and this is great. The knight is excellent at protecting your king. Two knights are even better protection. The bishop can protect your king from a larger distance. Same goes for the rook. So protect your king's position with the right pieces and chase away your opponent's king's protectors and you will have great chances to succeed in your games.
